This is a Young/new Adult book that is, what you could consider sweet. There is nothing erotic in this book. So really it would be a good cross over series for readers looking to jump to a new level of reading.
Kristia has taken her best friends advice to go somewhere new with her University and at 18 - honestly I think she is quite a young 18, too young? - she has finally left her pitifully small town where she grew up. A chance encounter in a London Museum and a surly upper classmen leaves her confused and unsure if it really was the best decision.
Kristia in my opinion is a character that makes you feel sorry for her constantly. She doesn't appear to have much going for her and her visions are only making her life worse. You want her to get stronger - grow up even. This is one of the reasons why I think 18 is too young for this novel. She is just too immature for some of the life altering decisions taking place around her. Too naive. But never mind, you do get used to her narrative and learn to love those around her.
Ull is confident yet confined. He is so unsure of himself out of what he has known for centuries that he has forgotten how to take a risk. So someone like Kristia is a total unknown and it is interesting to see him wrestle with himself and what is right, wrong and proper. As the story progresses we learn the reasoning behind his decisions and his journey through Asgard.
Overall the story is interesting. I love Norse history and the darkness in their stories it makes for a great background to build upon and S.T. Bende has done a fabulous job of building up these characters with long-held beliefs who are as willing as trees to uproot and change. Her writing is really enjoyable to read even if her characters are a bit on the annoying side (this does improve in the latter books!) So i really recommend that you pick up this book for a different kind of read!
