L.A Weatherly always catches me out in books. Her Angel series had me guessing all the time so picking up this book (no matter how long it has been out) was a no brainer, even with the very short blurb. The prologue will set the tone for this dystopian book where our protagonist is up against it all, before falling back a few months and setting the scene.
In the book we have two voices, the main one - Amity - is from the Western Seaboard and is a Peacefighter. In a world of peace, disputes are fought in the sky by two pilots and this is what Amity believes in. Peace in the world. She is proud of her job and loves to know what exactly she has won... or lost. The other voice - Kay - lives in the Central States where James Gunnison is the leader and his policy of astrology is ingrained and acted upon. She isn't a believer but will do whatever it takes to survive. Both are strong female figures who rely on their intelligence and wit to make it in their respective countries.
This book is well written and keeps you guessing. There are undertones that something isn't quite right from the start - with the World for Peace system, the various alliances and countries and with Amity's life as a whole. Her childhood friend - and crush - returns after a long absence and makes Amity seem softer, yet not even he can douse her fire for fighting for what is right.
Honestly, i'm surprised this book hasn't been talked about more. The plot is thick with promise of more, of treachery and intrigue. The book flows so well from element to element, it keeps you reading and anxious to know what will happen next, what is going on behind the scenes, and in true L.A Weatherly style - you can't read this book the same way ever again after the last page of reading. You might have suspicious through out, but you will never truly be convinced.
A top notch dystopia read which is different from anything else I have read in a long time. Maybe it is to be read in the stars, this series can only get hotter.
