Please give me a moment to wrap my head around what is simply a jewel in Marvel's crown of films. The witty one liners and the memorable cast of characters makes sure that this is a movie that is one you have to see this year. Also, great for the Dad's out there. The 70's and 80's music will have you bobbing your head. Pina Colada anyone?

We first meet the man in the iron mask, no not Iron Man but Star-Lord. (Or Peter Quill, if you will.) Chris Pratt portrays this goofy, lovable rogue and as you grow to accept his quirks you meet all the rest of the crew, you grow to love all the character's and understand why they are the way they are. From a genetically engineered raccoon to a species of alien who doesn't understand metaphors.

The music in this film fits in seamlessly, whether it is older music or the new symphonic sounds to accompany some of the more emotionally brilliant scenes. I applaud you Tyler Bates on a job well done. The voice casting  is also superb, Vin Diesel's, "I am Groot" carries a strength and power throughout the film, whereas Bradley Cooper's, Rocket brings an aloof yet deep creature who disguises his problems with sarcasm and games.

This film is also visually stunning, with the Universe setting, it would have been very easy to skimp and maybe, just relax on some details in the stars, but no, it is beautifully done. The scenes are striking and capture the viewers eyes with the bright and dark tones. The difference between Xander and Knowhere, is  again a difference of light and dark, it portrays how the communities differ on these planets, one is safe, happy and organised while the other is dark, drunken and disarrayed. This visually makes the whole film beautiful and again, keeps your attention the big screen.

Here is where we applaud the artistic/make-up team who, during this film made Zoe Saldana the green Gamora we know but also turned Dave Bautista into Drax the Destroyer. This would have required hours and hours of work each filming day and to  make sure it was all the same each time, that is dedication to your craft.

One of my favourite quotes throughout the film was;
- Rocket: "Metaphors go over his head",
Drax: "Nothing goes over my head... my reflexes are too fast, I would catch it".

So must you go see Guardians of the Galaxy?

Oh, Yeah.
